Man, 55, found dead in TGI Fridays restaurant as police launch murder probe

The victim was found in a derelict TGI Fridays site this week [National news]

The body of a 55-year-old man was sadly recovered from a derelict restaurant that has been closed for months, prompting a new murder investigation.

Yorkshire Police say they were called to reports of suspicious activity at the closed-up TGI Fridays restaurant on Sheffield Road, Sheffield, on Wednesday (June 10).

It was there that cops then found the body of the victim, who has not yet been formally identified. The force say his next of kin are being supported.

Officers also confirmed two women, aged 35 and 54, were arrested on suspicion of murder the next day, on Thursday (June 11), reports Yorkshire Live.

Formal identification of the man is yet to take place, though his family has been informed and is being supported by officers. A scene around the building is expected to remain in place until this evening (Friday, June 12).

DCI Laura Procter, Senior Investigating Officer, said: "Officers have been conducting various enquiries since the man's body was sadly found, with the aim of building up a full picture of the circumstances which led up to this incident.

"I am particularly keen for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around the TGI Fridays building in the days leading up to Wednesday, to get in touch with us.

"We will continue to work hard to get answers, and this has included arresting two women who remain in custody for questioning. If you have any information which you think could help us, no matter how big or small, please come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or report online, quoting incident number 897 of June 10.

TGI Fridays has since moved to distance itself from the building, clarifying that the Sheffield Road site was closed in January 2026 and is "no longer owned by the company or any affiliated organization." The Sheffield branch was one of 16 UK restaurants closed after TGI Fridays' UK operator went into administration.
