Angry Newcastle woman threatened to smash cousin's head on wall after affair claims

A scorned woman threatened to smash her cousin's head off a wall and "watch her bleed out in front of everybody" after believing she'd had an affair with her partner. Pregnant Sophie Shaw made numerous threats to the victim before telling her she was coming to her Newcastle home.
A court heard that the 34-year-old did just that and turned up at the terrified woman's address, where she repeatedly kicked her car, which caused £500-worth of damage. The police were called and Shaw, of Crossbank Road, Blakelaw, was arrested and has now pleaded guilty to criminal damage and sending a communication threatening death of serious harm.
Brian Payne, prosecuting at Newcastle Magistrates' Court, said there was a fall out between Shaw and her cousin in November last year. Mr Payne added: "The defendant sent a message to the complainant. She threatened to smash her face in.
"There were further threats issued about punching her head off a wall and watching her bleed out in front of everybody. On the following day, on November 27, there was a call from the defendant to the complainant at 2am.
"She said she was going to come down to her house and there was a suggestion she would be violent. The police were called and they advised the complainant to lock her door. She did that."
The court heard that Shaw did turn up and could be seen damaging the victim's car. The police were called again and, this time, Shaw was arrested.
Magistrates were told that Shaw had no past convictions and there had been some "background" to the offending. Ben Hurst, defending, said: "On the day in question, there was quite a lot of turmoil in Miss Shaw's life.
"Firstly, she found out she was pregnant and the father was having an affair with the complainant and also she found out her mother had terminal cancer." Mr Hurst said the "red mist" descended on Shaw and she acted in the way she did.
Shaw as fined £141 and must pay her cousin £150 compensation.
