Everything we know so far on Gateshead fire as firefighters tackle major industrial blaze
Emergency services have been at the scene on Patterson Street in Blaydon since 4am dealing with the huge fire
Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze in Blaydon and emergency services are at the scene
- Crews from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have been dealing with the blaze which began around 4am this morning. which currently remains ongoing.
- The fire broke out in the Chain Bridge Road Industrial Estate area of Blaydon in Gateshead. The fire reportedly began at premises, believed to be a factory, on Patterson Street.
- It is not yet known what caused the fire. Photos from the scene show damage from the blaze has partially destroyed part of a building roof.
- A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed five pumping appliances are in attendance plus specialist vehicles are on the scene.
- Residents have also been warned to "keep doors and windows closed" and to "avoid the area."
- Other emergency services including Northumbria Police are in attendance with several vehicles at the scene. Officers are currently standing guard behind a police and fire cordon erected on Patterson Street.
- A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said; "Police have been called to assist with the cordon."
