A30 will close for another four WEEKS as scheme nears its end

This is nearly the end for the five-year £330m project

The A30 is to be closed for another 20 nights next month as the £330m dualling scheme enters its final stage. National Highways and contractors Costain have announced that from June 9 there will be closures for 20 weeknights - or four weeks.

The closures will be between the Chiverton Cross roundabout and the Carland Cross junction at the other end of the 8.7 mile new stretch so all remedial work can be completed.

National Highways said the work near Truro will only go on between 8pm and 6am during weekdays to minimise any disruption to traffic and residents.

The Government organisation said that in week one only, these closures will affect the A39 and B3288 Carland Cross to Boxheater. They said: "This will be for completion of Carland Cross Junction roundabouts north and south, with resurfacing, permanent signage, footpath surfacing and white lining works and remedial works on the A30 itself."

Diversion routes, will be signed in yellow and will be in place for access. Meanwhile the following will be open for the full four weeks:

The B3284 North and South via Chybucca from Shortlanesend to Pendown Cross on the A3075. The A390, A3075 and B3277 through Chiverton Interchange Roundabout.

Andrew Alcorn, National Highways’ programme manager for the A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross scheme, said: "Opening the new dual carriageway has made a significant and positive difference to people’s journey times and opening up the old A30 will improve local connectivity and bring benefits to communities and residents alongside the new road.

"We’ve progressed a significant amount of ancillary work, including planting, hedging and landscaping, we’re in touching distance of the finishing line now and we thank people in advance for their continued co-operation and patience while we carry out these final works."

The following will be closed for the full four weeks:

  • The A30 Chiverton Interchange Eastbound onslip and offslip. (Chiverton Interchange Westbound onslip and Eastbound offslip will be closed during week 2 only.)
  • The A30 access from Chybucca via the Westbound onslip and the Eastbound offslip will be closed for the full four weeks of weeknights.
