Trial of retired Devon and Cornwall Police firearms officer accused of harassment delayed yet again
Harry Tangye, who is charged with harassment, will now face trial in November
A retired Devon and Cornwall Police armed response officer who was expected to face trial last year on the charge of harassing a woman has seen his trial adjourned yet again.
Devon and Cornwall Police, acting under instruction from West Yorkshire Police, arrested Harry Tangye on December 27, 2024, following an allegation of harassment. The allegation related to incidents alleged to have taken place between August 25, 2024, and September 7, 2024.
On March 8 2025, West Yorkshire Police confirmed that Tangye, of Lusty Glaze Road, Newquay, had been charged with harassment without violence.
A hearing was listed for April 3, 2025 at Bodmin Magistrates' Court where Tangye, aged 56, was expected to appear to face the single charge.
It is alleged that, between the aforementioned dates, he "pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of [named woman] and which you knew or ought to have known that amounted to the harassment of her in that you sent letters to discredit her to her employer".
However, the hearing was adjourned until Thursday, May 15, 2025 when Tangye pleaded not guilty to the charge.
At that time, the court heard from his defence solicitor who noted that, while her client had been a police officer with Devon and Cornwall Police, he was not a serving officer at the time of the alleged offence.
The matter was adjourned for a trial to be heard at Truro Magistrates' Court on November 7, 2025. This was then relisted for a new trial date of June 8 at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court.
That date was vacated in late May and the courts have now confirmed that there will be an application hearing on October 21 with a new trial date listed for November 23 at Bodmin Magistrates' Court.
