Police have issued an urgent appeal for video footage to help snare the killer of a Northern Quarter chef.

The body of Hiran Chauhan, 24, was found wrapped in plastic in undergrowth amongst trees off Eccles Old Road in Seedley, Salford, at about 8am on Tuesday. He had been missing for a week.

The woodland is a cut-through used by pupils attending nearby Buile Hill Visual Arts College and it was schoolchildren who made the grim discovery.

It is the grounds of the former Pendleton Girls School and an entrance to the location is opposite the cul-de-sac, Brentwood.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Hiran's murder, but detectives have issued an urgent appeal for video footage which could provide crucial evidence.

Detectives are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who has information or has any video footage captured between 12.30am and 9am on Tuesday 9 July 2019 on Eccles Old Road between Weaste Lane and Castleway including Rivington Road.

Detectives are appealing for any video footage that may have been recorded on this stretch of Eccles Old Road in Salford from Castleway to Weaste Lane, between 12.30am and 9am on Tuesday July 9. This map shows the stretch, and where Hiran's body was found that morning.(Image: Google)

Files can be uploaded online via the investigation page on the Major Incident Public Portal. Search mipp.police.uk and click on the tile for this investigation and follow the instructions.

Police believe the body may have been transported from elsewhere to the location which is off a main road between Eccles and Pendleton.

Hiran, from Seedley, Salford, did not return home from work following a shift at El Capo restaurant.

He finished work at around 10.30pm on Tuesday, July 2nd and began making his way home with a friend.

They both visited the McDonald's in Piccadilly Gardens then travelled home on a tram, first at Market Street and then another tram at St Peter's Square.

CCTV footage shows Hiran got off the tram at Cornbrook at 11.08pm.

He would normally then catch a tram towards Salford and get off at Langworthy.

Further footage shows Hiran got off the tram at Langworthy at 11.31pm, but Hiran never returned home to the room he rents in a house share.
