Murder detectives are still trying to identify a body found in woodland.

The victim was wrapped in plastic in undergrowth amongst secluded trees just off Eccles Old Road in Seedley, Salford.

It is expected that specialist officers will remain at the scene for up to two days as forensic work is carried out.

Police were called just after 8am today after the alarm was raised and a huge cordon was put in place on the stretch of road between Buile Hill and Langworthy Road.

The road was blocked off to traffic whilst the entrance to the woodland, opposite the cul-de-sac, Brentwood, was also taped off with officers guarding it.

The gender or age of the person discovered is still not known.

A woman who lives on Eccles Old Road told the MEN: "I heard screams this morning. That must have been when the body was found. School kids are always walking through the cut-in to the woods there to get to school. It must have been terrible for whoever found it."

Another resident said: "I left my house this morning to go to church. I saw police officers talking to three lads with bikes on Eccles Old Road, they were all in their school uniforms."

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Clearly, we’re looking at suspicious circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body and are doing everything we can at the scene to gather as much evidence as possible.
