Police van badly damaged after smashing into car in east Manchester

A police van was badly damaged after smashing into a car in east Manchester.

Ashton Old Road in Beswick was closed outbound at the junction with Alan Turing Way after a British Transport Police (BTP) vehicle and Peugeot 208 crashed.

The road was closed at around 4pm and reopened two hours later.

People at the scene were treated for 'minor injuries', a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said.

"Shortly after 4pm police were called to report of a crash between a BTP van and a Peugeot 208," he added.

Photos from the scene showed the van, which was badly damaged, being towed away from the scene.

Transport for Greater Manchester bosses tweeted about the incident.

They posted: "Ashton Old Road is closed outbound at the junction of Alan Turing Way due a police incident. Traffic diverting via Alan Turing Way and Pottery Lane."
