Beverley Callard's husband supported as he opens up ahead of her cancer treatment starting

It came as the Coronation Street legend offered her own update on her planned cancer treatment

Beverley Callard's husband has been shown support by fans of the Coronation Street legend as she offered an update on her planned cancer treatment.

It was in January that the actress, who is famed for having played Liz McDonald in the ITV soap, said in January that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.

She said she was delivered the news just 20 minutes before she filmed her first scenes on Irish soap, Fair City, which she joined as the new character, Lily Patterson, having relocated to Ireland for the job alongside her husband, Jon McEwan.

Beverley, who is famed for playing Liz McDonald in the ITV soap, went on to have three lymph nodes removed as a precaution to ensure the cancer did not spread, and she later explained that her consultant had said the surgery she had "went really well," and that they managed to "cut the cancer out".

However, Beverley, who has been documenting her journey on social media, was recently told that she should have started radiotherapy sooner and has been waiting to begin the treatment process.

On Monday (June 15), Beverley returned to social media with her latest update, sharing her hopes that she'll soon have a date to start radiotherapy.

Speaking in the clip, the 69-year-old said: "Well, I've got news. I have an appointment on Thursday afternoon at 3.30 to have the body scan and body mapping and then hopefully, she says, I will begin the radio therapy the week after. Next week I'm hoping. So fingers crossed. But, Sod's Law, I'm at work the next Monday, a week today, so hopefully I'll be able to cope with both.

"I know some people say you can, others say you can't. But fingers crossed." Beverley also captioned the post: "So the next appointment date is through, with hopefully a plan to start the radiotherapy next week. But it’s Sod’s Law that I also go back to work that week so hopefully I can power through both!"

It was on Thursday (June 18) that Beverley headed to her latest appointment. Having documented the process, she said at the end of her latest video: "The staff were lovely, they did say I normally would've seen some nurses for blood pressure, blood tests, but they're short-staffed, so they couldn't do that today. They'll do that on my first radiotherapy session, which they think is going to be 2nd July."

Meanwhile, her husband Jon took to social media to post his own update on what his wife is going through. He said: "Beverley has just gone into the CT room just to have her mapping done. There's nothing we can do really, is there? I'm just waiting. Yeah, she looked pretty worried about it but I know there's nothing worried about it. I think she's more worried about this than she is about having the operation."

He added: "I think it's the unknown, isn't it? I think I'm more worried about this - the operation is just that. And I know she's worried about what she looks like but there's no need to worry about that. But this... the fact that she's gotta come every day...it's certainly a journey."

And his post was flooded with messages of love and support. @ttustin40 said: "You are an amazing partner Jon. So supportive. She is amazing. Make sure you take care of yourself as well." @duffyjune commented: "You look worried Jon. You are doing great. If everyone had the support of a partner like you it would be wonderful."

@moira_rooney wrote: "I haven’t gone through any of this Jon but I feel your fear and Beverley’s too. It is scary but she will get through this, I know she will." @sarah5865 replied: "You are an amazing human and so supportive. Please make sure you look after yourself during this journey because you are loved by everyone also and your strength is wonderful." @donohoekaz added: "So good that you’re able to open up about your journey.. sending love & support to you and Bev."
