I was shocked at David Beckham’s response after I sent congratulations for being knighted
David Beckham's response left Sky Sports presenter Alex Aljoe in some doubt
Sky Sports presenter Alex Aljoe expressed her doubts over David Beckham's recollection of their past encounter after congratulating him on his knighthood.
The football legend, who was knighted at Windsor Castle last month, attended the Club World Cup this summer as Inter Miami made their tournament debut in the United States. Aljoe, who was covering the competition for DAZN, crossed paths with Beckham during the opening game.
She shared details of their brief exchange on The Rest Is Football podcast, hosted by Micah Richards, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer. Her anecdote about the Manchester United icon's dubious memory had the trio laughing uproariously.
It was Richards who suggested that Beckham, 50, was "definitely lying" when he claimed to remember their previous meeting during his stint with Real Madrid. Recounting her conversation with Beckham, Aljoe said: "Well, that opening game was amazing, they had an opening ceremony as well.
"[There were] fireworks, French Montana performing... then the players came out one by one, Beckham was there. Sorry, Sir David Beckham was there. I congratulated him on his knighthood and asked if he remembered me from years ago, when I interviewed him at Real Madrid. He said yes, but the jury's out on that one."
Richards responded with a cheeky grin, stating: "He was lying. He was lying, he was definitely lying." Lineker then chimed in with: "Knights don't lie Alex. Knights of the realm do not lie!"

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.
Sky broadcasts more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more with at least 215 live from the top flight alongside Formula 1, darts and golf.
Ex-Manchester City defender Richards displayed his helpful nature by offering to message Beckham for Aljoe, causing Shearer to burst into laughter before retorting: "Listen to him, 'I can text him for you,' what a k*** you are!"
Beckham was honoured in King Charles' Birthday Honours back in June, an occasion he described as a "truly humbling and emotional moment." At the time, he expressed: "Growing up in east London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour.
"To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career, and literally a boyhood dream come true. I'm so lucky to be able to do the work that I do, and I'm grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment."
When he was knighted last month at Windsor Castle, he was accompanied by his wife Victoria and his parents Sandra and Ted. He also acknowledged the former Spice Girl for designing his stylish suit.
Commenting on how King Charles admired his outfit, Beckham shared: "He was quite impressed with my suit. He's kind of the most elegantly dressed man I know, so he's inspired quite a few of my looks over the years - and he definitely inspired this one.
"It was something my wife made me," he added. "I looked at old pictures of him when he was younger, wearing morning suits, and thought, that's exactly what I want. So I showed them to Victoria, and she created it."
