Gethin Jones put in place by Helen Skelton on Morning Live amid romance rumours
BBC Morning Live presenter Helen Skelton pointed out 'differences' between her and Gethin Jones live on air
BBC Morning Live presenters Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton have been dogged by speculation about a romantic relationship for months owing to their on-screen rapport.
The duo returned to present the daytime programme on Tuesday, 24 February, covering various topics with their guests - from elaborate scams to the newest crime trends - and they welcomed guest Joe Wicks.
They also featured a segment with finance expert Iona Bain on how airlines have been distributing millions to customers after initially rejecting their compensation claims for substandard service - when Helen put Cardiff-born Gethin in his place.
Iona said: "The lastest figures show that almost £11m was paid out in just one year to passengers whose claims were first refused or ignored by their airline but were later upheld by an independent adjudicator."
She added: "So this data covers several airlines Wizz Air, Ryan Air, easyJet, but also British Airways, which had to pay out £7m to passengers who had initially had their complaints rejected. So I think this tells us something really important here which is that airlines are not always getting that initial decision right but also customers very understandably are sometimes giving up at the first hurdle," reports the Mirror.
Gethin, 48, interjected: "You need to be persistent."
She concurred with him, emphasising that passengers shouldn't automatically accept the airline's verdict and could contest it - a right that extends to any journey made within the past six years (five years in Scotland).
Helen, 42, turned to Gethin at that moment and remarked: "Yeah but I think if you've had a good holiday you just think 'oh never mind'." Gethin responded directly: "No, no you wouldn't." Helen continued: "And that's the difference between us!"
The exchange follows months of persistent speculation that divorced mother-of-three Helen and single Gethin are romantically involved. The duo have been photographed together numerous times at red carpet events and social occasions.
Whilst Helen maintained in a recent Mirror interview that they are simply "work friends", Gethin had previously spoken warmly about his co-presenter after they participated in a 24-hour skating challenge for Comic Relief last year.
A visibly moved Gethin told Helen during a Morning Live interview as they finished the challenge: "You were amazing, you were incredible. She was just getting me through."
Helen placed a comforting hand on his arm and reassured him: "It's a team, it's a big team."
Morning Live is on BBC One weekdays at 9.30am and on BBC iPlayer
