Leeds United now favourites to sign Harry Wilson as massive factor emerges

Leeds are now firmly among the favourites to sign Wilson, who is out of contract this summer

Leeds United are now the bookmakers' favourites to land Wales talisman Harry Wilson.

The former Liverpool winger is out of contract this summer, although he has been offered the chance to stay at Fulham, who have slapped a new deal on the table in a bid to keep the Welshman at Craven Cottage.

However, there's a real chance Wilson may now decide to move on, and many Wales fans will no doubt be keeping a close eye on where he ends up.

Leeds are currently topping the list of contenders with several bookies, while Aston Villa are also believed to be firmly in the picture.

Portuguese giants Benfica were briefly linked with a move following the arrival of Wilson's former Fulham boss Marco Silva.

However, the suggestion is they are now out of the picture.

Given they can offer Champions League football, there's every chance Villa will be seen as the favoured destination at this stage.

But the appeal of a move to Elland Road can't be discounted, particularly given the already large Welsh contingent there.

Joe Rodon and Daniel James are both on the books, as too is Karl Darlow, although like Wilson, he too is coming to the end of his current contract.

The suggestion is Manchester United might be readying a surprise offer for the former Newcastle United keeper, but Leeds will clearly be desperate to keep him on board following a strong season.

Captain Ethan Ampadu may well have a key role to play in convincing Darlow to stay and, as it turns out, has also been in the ear of Wilson recently.

"[I'm] trying to sell it to everyone,” Ampadu said when asked if he'd been looking to sell a move to Wilson.

"It’s a pretty easy sell. Everyone knows how special a place Leeds is.

"But whenever we get asked how our time is at Leeds, when we’re with Wales, we speak about it so glowingly.”

Those positive reviews might yet push Leeds further into contention for the 29-year-old.
